This is a Book Alteration Art piece. The centerpiece is a tree made from paper pulp with eyes looking greedily at it. The concept behind it is that we cut down trees to make paper so here is a tree made with paper instead. The sign says “The Last Tree, Keep Out” which imagines a situation in posterity where deforestation led to only one tree remaining on Earth and even still people are greedily looking at it to make it their own. The tree is black in color representing that it has been tainted by the dark side of humanity because trees normally represent life, knowledge, truth and more positive elements. The base of the tree is book which is about the human race, its religion, the world and how the people have changed the Earth so it is a perfect setting for the concept. And ironically, book alteration requires us to exploit paper to create a piece of art.
